On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, intellect, and resilience of women across Canada and around the world. As the YLC’s National Women’s Representative, it is inspiring to be a part of a team always working to nurture and expand female engagement in politics. I’m especially heartened to see so many young feminists lending their time to help other women get involved, engaged and even elected. This is highlighted by the incredible number of young women taking on leadership roles in Young Liberal organizations nationwide. Be sure to check out our Young Women in Leadership Project to see all the amazing things that young women are doing in leadership roles — from Memorial to uVic!
Canadian women have come a long way, especially notable given that it’s now been a century since we fought for and won our right to vote. Yet it’s more important than ever to keep working towards gender equality, not only in politics but all other aspects of our society. Today, let’s celebrate the victories of women thus far, and look forward to the next steps in fighting for true equality. I know that young women will be leading the way.
Happy International Women’s Day!
